Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse has been bought to the forefront of people’s attention in recent years but remains very much misunderstood by the average person in the street.
The first thing that springs to mind is of the aggressive male being violent towards the female partner, but “domestic abuse” refers to much more than just this. It applies to any threatening behaviour, violence or abuse including psychological, physical, sexual, financial and emotional, between those who are in a family relationship of some sort. This covers parents and children, same-sex partnerships and more often than is realised, females against their male partners. It also occurs where parties do not even live together.
If you have suffered from any type of domestic abuse described above then there are practical and legal steps you can take to protect yourself against future harm.
