Adverse Possession

Sometimes property ownership claims can be based on a person’s possession of the land for a period of time, such as 10 or 12 years, even if on the Deeds the land is owned by someone else. If such a claim is successful then the person who appears to hold title to the land in the Deeds may lose ownership of this property through what is known as “adverse possession”.

Our Dispute Resolution team will advise you with regard to the making and defending of adverse possession claims. These claims can deal with large areas of land, such as fields or development land, as well as small strips of land between neighbouring houses or even part of your garden.
